She executive produced the award-winning television movie, The Last Best Year, based on her experiences as a psychologist and her work with a dying patient. The film follows the relationship between a therapist, played by Mary Tyler Moore, and a patient, Bernadette Peters, and follows their shared journey of discovery during the final months of the patient’s life.

Victoria Riskin

The Valentine Davies award from the Writers Guild of America, West, is the latest in a line of humanitarian awards presented to Victoria Riskin. As well as this prestigious award, made all the more poignant by the fact that Victoria Riskin was the first woman to lead the Writers Guild since Mary McCall in the early 1940s, she was given the Chairman’s Award by the Caucus of Writers, Producers and Directors, The Justice Rose Bird Person of Courage Award by Death Penalty Focus, the Horace Mann Alumna of the Year Award by Antioch University Los Angeles, and the Human Rights Defender of the First Amendment Award by the ACLU of Southern California.
